Knowledge Hub: connecting public services
The challenge
There is a vast amount of knowledge and experience across the public sector, but so often this resides in silos and isn’t shared effectively, which frequently leads to people working in isolation and ends up with organisations reinventing the wheel.
By creating a space for shared learning and mutual support, we have not only improved the professional working lives of our 500+ members, but also strengthened the public services we all rely on.
The solution
A single cross-organisation platform for the public sector to share knowledge and insights with other trusted individuals and organisations. Built using Placecube’s Digital Communities product, Knowledge Hub enables members to share and find information and learn from each other within online groups, all supported by Placecube’s experienced team of community managers.
Public sector organisations may choose a standard open or access controlled (restricted) group free of charge to collaborate in communities of practice and project groups with colleagues, customers and stakeholders. Additionally, organisations may decide to subscribe and create their own branded networks containing multiple groups with a variety of access permissions and purposes.
The results
More than 2000 communities and groups sharing knowledge across departments, organisations and sectors. Using Knowledge Hub significantly reduces the cost of developing and replicating similar bespoke systems and removes traditional organisational, geographical and technological barriers. For example, one group dedicated to supporting local government civil enforcement believes it has saved its member local authorities many thousands of pounds through sharing best practice. Another group, supporting professional development and qualifications, has made significant financial and environmental savings through delivering exams online, reducing travel and printing costs.
Networks provide great practical, day-to-day support and real-time responses for members to get help on specific challenges, share approaches that have worked for them, signpost others to relevant resources and learn from the wider community.
Our network provides a straightforward but effective way for people to share knowledge, ask questions and connect across the heritage sector. By keeping the approach open and easy to engage with, it supports more consistent knowledge-sharing and enables a wider range of people to take part.
